What a fascinating question. As a young architect, I was obsessed with getting credit for my ideas and work, even while working in firms with my bosses' names on the door. (They always got the credit.) When I had my own firm, I made sure to spread the credit around. And as a professor, I try to be as non-hierarchical as I can -- not sure how it comes across, though. Maybe that sense of ownership and hierarchy is a symptom of supremacy culture more so than an indictment of any particular profession. The more I learn about other fields, and see similar patterns, the more I wonder.
